Bousefield, Leslie Ronald (Les) (1938 - )Les Bousefield was the first research officer appointed at Kings Park Botanic Garden (1969-1970) by John Beard.
This appointment was made over the objections of the Department of Agriculture, but
Beard successfully argued to the Premier that a Botanic Garden needed to undertake
botanical research.
Bousefield was engaged to undertake research on living plants,
which included seed germination experiments on native species that proved difficult
to germinate.
Bousefield also undertook a PhD on the genetics of Dampiera linearis
R.Br., which was awarded in 1970.
Research programs into seed germination
were to prove long running and continue today.
Bousefield also conducted hybridisation
experiments, particularly on Verticordia DC. species and kangaroo paws (Anigozanthos
Labill.).
His last known place of work (in 1976) was: Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research, 2141, Lidcombe, NSW, Australia which is located within the Westmead Hospital medical precinct.
